Stack sizes

  • 64: almost all blocks and most materials, such as stone, dirt, wood, ores and food.
  • 16: ender pearls, snowballs, eggs, signs, banners, empty buckets, honey bottles and armor stands.
  • 1 (unstackable): tools, weapons, armor, potions, filled buckets, beds, minecarts and boats.

Frequently asked questions

How many items are in a stack in Minecraft?

Most items stack to 64. Some items, such as ender pearls, snowballs, eggs, signs, banners and empty buckets, stack to 16. Items with durability, like tools, weapons and armor, do not stack at all.

How many items fit in a shulker box?

A shulker box has 27 slots, the same as a single chest. With items that stack to 64, that is 1,728 items per shulker box.

How many items fit in a double chest?

A double chest has 54 slots, so it holds 3,456 items that stack to 64. A double chest full of shulker boxes, each filled with 64-stacks, holds 93,312 items.

How many stacks is 1,000 blocks?

1,000 blocks is 15 stacks and 40 blocks, which takes 16 inventory slots.

Can stacks be bigger than 64?

Not in normal survival play. With commands and item components, Java Edition allows stacks of up to 99 and Bedrock up to 127, but regular items keep their normal stack size.
